Jekyll is mild mannered, so Hyde is brash. Lanyon is a jerk, so Albert is... not a jerk? This works out nicely.

A friendly troll? Gentle giant? After all he's the opposite of Lanyon. :')

He's a troll. Just a very big troll. In my universe, your race does not predetermine you attitude.

I'm intrigued: where do their names come from? do the alternate personas already "exist" elsewhere before someone drinks the formula?

If I suddenly were to pop into existence, I'd probably blink stupidly for a second, then say the first name that comes handy: "Hi, I'm...*eyes wander over to bookcase*...Jane Crusoe...no wait, Robinson Austin...Emma Defoe?" *fidgets awkwardly*

The names are symbolic and one's spirit is a complex place. Hyde used to be part of Jekyll so his name came from the thing that meant a lot to Jekyll at the name being "Hyde". The name "Edward" is also a bit of a reference to royalty (in my case) to be important.

In the case of Albert, it's a very common name and "Ode" is the kind of a reference to poetry meaning peace in a very strange way. Albert Ode is at peace with himself and his stature in society whereas Lanyon is fixated on being more and it made his resent those around him to the point of spite.

Aha, that makes sense ^^
Thanks for the explanation!

(To be honest, I've always wondered if it was significant in the original that both "Henry" and "Edward" are royal names)

It could be. Though I kept it to stay true to at least that part of the adaptation.

I just realized. Lanyon's gonna have the same dependency on the Hyde formula as Jekyll!

Maybe he will. Maybe he won't. It's a bit different for everyone because the formula is a combination of science and magic. With that said, him being dependent on it would be the luckiest outcome!
